  • Alyssa Nolan Period:2 Plymouth Storyboard
  • Economic
  • After the Massachusetts Bay Company helped the Pilgrims get settled the Pilgrims had no source of income, so to get the money they used the resources around them and became very successful. some of the things that got them money was selling timber, fishing, and whaling, but they still needed a source of food so they had to make small farms that they could provide enough food for themselves also known as  Subsistence Farming.
  • Geographic
  • When the Pilgrims first left New England they planned to land in Virginia, but a storm blew them off course so they ended up landing in Cape Cod Massachusetts. The Pilgrims had a hard time settling there at first because they arrived during autumn and the land had very rocky soil.
  • While the Pilgrims were separatists and left England for religious freedom. The Puritans left awhile after the Pilgrims and left for religious freedom as well, but they believed that they  needed to be pure so they had to follow very strict rules, the  Puritans left in something known as the Great Migration.  The Puritans were so strict that if you did not follow the rules you would be "religously persecuted".
  • Social
  • Political
  • When the Pilgrims first left England to get away from the grasps of King Charles I. So the  Pilgrims  leader William Bradford went to Virgina company and got permission or charter to establish a new colony in Virgina. The Pilgrims left on a ship known as the Mayflower to flee from the strict rules of the Church of England. Before they hit land the men on boad decided to make the Mayflower Compact which stated that the men would have Town meetings so could consult with each other and vote.
  • Some differences between Jamestown and Plymouth are that when they started in Jamestown The king sent them, they settled in a swampy area, they only sent men, and they were controlled by a king. When They first arrived in Plymouth they came for religious freedom, they were forced out of England, they were controlled by priests, the area was very rocky, and they brought families. A few similarities they have are both came from England they both had slaves and both churches were Catholic.
