The Coast Guard was so close to reaching Isabel's family, when Isabel's mother gives birth to Isabel's baby brother. Isabel is told to run to shore because they were so close.
Isabel makes it to America with her baby brother. She made it to land on dry foot which means she is now legal in America. The Coast Guard ship went away and Isabel and her family were safe. After their long journey "they had made it to the States. To freedom" (Gratz 298)
After about a month, Isabel was in the sixth grade, Isabel's father became a taxi driver, to save up money for her family's own car. And Isabel's mother and baby brother had been given a clean bill of health. All was going right.
Isabel gets a new trumpet and gets to play to her class all the time for everyone to hear. Isabel is joyful, and living her best life. She finally finds her clave and realizes that no matter where you are, any place can become home.
