  • Little Rock School Crisis-In 1854 Governor Orval Foubus ordered the Arkansas National guard to prevent African American students from enrolling at central high school. The United States supreme court ruled that segregated schools illegal.

  • Sit-In movement-In the 1960s Young African American students staged a sit-in at a segregated Woolworth's lunch counter in Greensbora, North Carolina, and refused to leave after being denied service.
  • Freedom Riders- in 1961 The riders were met by an angry mob at the terminal. The ob attacked the bus with clubs, slashed its tires as it attempted to flee. Firebombed it miles down the road.
  • March On Washington-Massive protest march that occurred in August in 1963, when some 250,000 people gathered in front of the lincoln memorial Washington.
