The great depression started because of the stock market crash in 1929. They closed banks after the stock market crash which caused factories and businesses to close down. People started building hoovervilles out of scrap lumber, metal, and cardboard.
On October 29th 1929 Black Tuesday began, The largest selling day in history where people would sell and exchange their stock. People kept buying prices that were plummeted, in only 2 months the stock market lost about 40 percent of its value. Economic depression began where people were suffering from unemployment, low business activity, and a weak stock market.
