President Lincoln and his wife Mary enter a play called "My American Cousin" late. The play stops for the orchestra to play music and announce the entrance of the president. Lincoln and Mary are seated in the presidential box.
John Wilkes Booth (a well known actor who is a Confederate sympathizer) sneaks up behind Lincoln in the Presidential box. He shoots Lincoln in the head then jumps 11 feet onto the stage and shouts, "Sic Semper Tyrannis"
Lincoln is taken to a boarding home near the theater where he is assisted but soon passes away the morning of April 16th, 1865. The vice president, Andrew Johnson, takes over the position as president.
