  • Anagnorisis( The moment when the hero makes an important discovery)
  • Catharsis( The audience's feelings of pity and fear )
  • Hamartia( The hero's flaw that leads to his tragic downfall )
  • Oedipus finds out that he did kill his father and marry his mother so he stabs his eyes out after Jocasta kills herself.
  • Hubris( A hero's extreme pride and disrespect for the natural order )
  • The audience was able to feel pity or fear when Jocasta hanged herself after the truth was revealed.
  • Dramatic Irony( The audience knows whats going on but the characters don't)
  • Oedipus' excessive pride and overly confident personality made him curse himself.( He ordered that whoever killed the king was to be executed , not knowing he killed the king )
  • Symbolism( The use of symbols to signify ideas and qualities, by giving them symbolic meanings that are different from their literal sense. )
  • Oedipus becomes rude towards Tiresias and blames him for the murder.
  • The audience knew that Oedipus killed his father and married his mother like the prophecy said, but he didn't know.
  • At the crossroads is when Oedipus made his first crucial choice which made the prophecy start to come true.
