  • French territory around the Ohio River Valley
  • King Louis XIV has commanded us to build a military fort for trading!
  • Yes sir! We will get on that right away! We shall call it fort Duquesne.
  • British colonies around the same time
  • Ok then. We have come to the conclusion to explore West into French territory! We will build a fort there too just like the French!
  • British fort Necessity 1747:
  • Colonel George Washington: The French are invading us! We need to retreat they're forces are too strong!
  • The Albany Plan of Union
  • Benjamin Franklin: We the British colonies need to form our own royally appointed legislature and government to be able to sign treaties, declare wars, raise an army and navy, and tax ourselves!
  • 1775: British General Edward Braddock arrives in Virginia
  • Braddock: George Washington I have selected you to aide the colonies to remove the French from this land
  • Yes Sir!
  • The French and Indian war ended in February 1763 with the treaty of Paris and the British navy now ruled the seas and commanded Europe and North America.
  • Meanwhile in 1757 William PItt becomes secretary of state and leader of the British house of commons
  • "I am sure I can save this country, no one else can"
