Johan Van Hulst

Johan Van Hulst

Storyboard Text

  • Can you please tell us the story of Johan Van Hulst again?
  • Johan Van Hulst was a teacher in Amsterdam during the holocaust. There was a Nazi Facility across the street from his school. He saw that children were being taken to death camps so he decided to do something about it.
  • He decided to save children from death. He teamed up with men who wrote down children's names on an official Nazi list. Together they erased just over 600 children's names.
  • Johan was supposed to store some children in his school because the facility was over crowded. Instead of storing them, Johan led them across the road and when the tram blocked the view of Johan from the Nazis, he disguised them as potato sacks and hid the children in underground sanctuaries.
  • Sadly, Johan died at the age of 107 in 2018. I believe that when you help people, you live longer.
  • The moral of the story is that if you help people, you will be rewarded with a long and happy life.
