Elizabeth was a slave from about 250 years ago. In the beginning of the text she was 11 years old. She had to clean up the rooms.
She was sold to a stranger so her now owner had to take her away from her parents at a very young age, but her mother told her "Nobody in the wide world to look to but God".
When she grew up and became an adult her last owner was very kind. He thought that it was wrong to keep slaves working for their whole life. But while she was still a slave she would pray to God when she had time.
Elizabeth started setting up meetings in houses to talk about God "The Lord". Only black people were coming. And soon she starter doing these meetings in Churches all around the USA.
No matter what happened she would keep on doing the meetings at houses and Churches. People told her had to stop but she wouldn't. She thought it was very impotent to deliver God's message.
At the end people stopped trying to shut down all of the meetings, and not just black people were going at the end. White people were also starting to come to the meetings. Then Elizabeth know that she was delivering God's "The Lord's" message.
