Storyboard Text

  • Articles of Confederation
  • Shays' Rebellion
  • Consituitional Convention
  • The articles of Confederation was the United States constitution until 1781. The document was sent with the Declaration of Independence which declared the United States as a free country.
  • Virginia Plan
  • Shays' rebellion was a plethora of attacks on government owned Massachusetts land. The cause of these attacks were caused by the farmers who fought in the Revolutionary War and were not paid enough to sustain them. The farmers who fought were led by Daniel Shays who was also a farmer that stormed Bunker Hill in the war. The aftermath of all of this was bittersweet in which taxes were cut generously but, the rebels who served with Shay were not allowed to vote or be in a political position.
  • New Jersey Plan
  • The Constitutional Convention was held May, 1787 and ended July of 1787. Representitives from 13 states came to make edits the current constituion but ended up throwing out the old and then wrote a new one.
  • Great Compromise and the 3/5 Compromise
  • The Virginia Plan is a legislative branch containing two houses called the bicameral legislature. The document was drafted by James Madison just in time by the Constitutional Convention. The scene above this represents the large and industrial scale of Virginia
  • The New Jersey plan wanted a single legislative branch with one house. This plan was created to combat the Virginia Plan which was drafted by William Paterson. Paterson believed that the Virginia plan would give larger states more power. The above this represents how rural and remote New Jersey is.
  • The Great Compromise sided wih the Virginia plan which allowed the larger states to more of a say in National votes. Some people were upset by this and then left the convention in frustration. The 3/5 compromise was where 5 slaves counted as 3 non-slaves when voting.
