The war between Great Britain and France known as the Seven Years' War. Happened because The borders between French and British possessions was not well defined, and one disputed territory was the upper Ohio River valley.
Assemblies had time to react
but, Colonists became angry and moved west anyway because owning land was important
England was still in debt from the French and Indian War and didn't want to start another war
Proclamation of 1763 was a law prohibiting the colonists to move west of the Appalachian Mountains
The British needed money to pay off their debt so they made the Sugar Act of 1764 which taxed goods like sugar, coffee, and cloth. In a attempt to stop smuggling
Many colonists said the new taxes were unfair. Colonists had no say in making tax laws because they did not have representatives in Parliament.
It didn’t stop smuggling and in fact caused ugly confrontations in ports
Britain still needed more money because they were in debt
This upset the colonist more So the colonists boycotted British goods. They also organized the Sons of Liberty and the Daughters of Liberty.
So they made the Stamp Act which was a tax on every sheet of every legal document.
To try and avoid hostility, Grenville hired colonists to be local stamp distributors paid handsomely
As predicted this led to stamp distributors resigning
and the Stamp Act was repealed but replaced with the Declaratory Act
Sons of Liberty hung, beheaded, and burned an effigy of Andrew Oliver in attempt to show them they were upset.
This laid the ground work for the eventual freedom of the country
