  • Examples: Parliamentary Democracy: Elected into parliament, then parliament chooses Prime Minister Presidential Democracy: Head of government (president) is chosen by the people
  • United States of America: Presidential
  • Monarchy: Has a king, queen, emperor, etc. Ruling position is hereditary
  • Examples: Absolute Monarchy: Rules for life Constitutional Monarchy: Guided by a written constitution
  • Japan: Constitutional 
  • Theocracy: Ruled by religious leaders, laws are based upon religious law
  • Iran
  • Oligarchy:  A political party or other small group makes all the major decisions
  • Iran is a small group of religious leaders
  • Dictatorship: One person has all power and usually holds it with military force
  • North Korea
  • Autocracy: Ruler has absolute (total) power to do whatever they wish 
  • Dictatorship and absolute monarchy are two forms of an autocracy.
