Storyboard Text

  • Welcome to the Engel v. Vitale court case
  • Good morning ladies and gentle men! I am William Vitale. I am being sued by Mr. Engel for forcing students to pray during school.
  • It has been a tradition in the school the schools for many years now for the schools to recite a prayer during the school day. I believe that the establishment clause protects me from this case.
  • Good morning. I am Steven Engel, I am the parent of a student at Mr. Vital's school. I believe that forcing my student to recite a prayer is extremely unconstitutional.
  • Many of the parents that I have converted with agree with me on this. Many students don't know what they believe, let alone be able to step up and say that they don't believe in what they are reciting.
  • I have come to a decision. Mr. Engel is correct. These students don't need to be forced to pray during the chool day. It is unconstitutional for a government facility to be forcing students to practice a religious procedure.
