Presidential Reconstruction was the first attempt to Reconstruction. President Johnson was in charge of this reconstruction but did not go harsh on Southerners. Johnson did believe that freedmen could live on their own so he let the south pass Black Codes.
White League and KKK
In 1865, the southerners were angry that freedmen would have the same rights as them. So they passed the Black Codes. One was that freedmen were not allowed to rent a house. And also that freedmen were forced to work for a white person.

Radical Reconstruction was the second attempt of Reconstruction after Republicans thought that Johnson was not doing enough. One idea of reconstruction was to gives freedmen the same rights as whites. They also created the Freedmen's Bureau to help blacks.
Compromise of 1877
we will release our troops for the White House
The White league and the KKK (Ku Klux Klan) were white terrorist to freedmen. The effect it had on the freedmen was that these groups killed many freedmen and the groups hoped to scare the freedmen from voting. Eventually they had to call soldiers to deal with the groups.
The republicans created the Freedmen's Bureau to help these newly freedmen by giving them rations. This effected the freedmen by giving them something to live better. They helped the blacks because many of them were poor.
Democratic leaders agreed to let the Republicans keep the White House, in exchange for the withdrawal of federal troops from the Southern states. This ended reconstruction in the south. This left blacks to manage on their own.
