Storyboard Text

  • Learning about the class
  • How do I come up with an idea? I don't even know my thought processes of how I am going to do this.
  • I am excited to start this class. I am not the most creative. I am scared that I am going to be judged on how good or bad my art work is though.
  • Ok class. We are going to do our first art exploration. Watch this video and then submit your work!
  • Preparation & Incubation
  • I am connecting this to my MKT class. Chapter 5 in The Runaway Species discusses blending, connections, and how it sparks things!
  • Now to start this art exploration... Let's see what I have around me that I can use.
  • Maybe I should relax for a day and see if anything comes to me
  • Illumination/Collaborating
  • You are right! There was the example of how the windshield came about! Do you have any ideas that can help me come up with something better?
  • Hey I have to do this art exploration and this is my idea so far...
  • Didn't The Runaway Species discuss how collaborating your ideas with other people also help innovate new things?
  • At the start of the class I was anxious. I like things art related but it scares me when it is a class because I would get graded off of the professors taste and prefrence.
  • Evaluation/Attempting
  • Time to knock this out. Let me start taking photos of what I have planned and see how it goes. Maybe a new angle can spark a new idea. Then I will share this with my friends again and see what they think.
  • Before getting far into the class I realized my first step is to always brainstorm and do research if I am not very educated in a topic. Turns out, most people start with this step. The next step is incubation and that is when you take a step back and see if an idea can spark from living your everyday life.
  • Verification/Reinforcement
  • Guys, I don't think I can do this. I don't understand the assignment and I suck!
  • Collaborating can give you the "aha" moment you need for your project. This is the illuminating step in the creative process. I also realized that this came naturally when having conversations with my friends on the work I needed to do, I did this even before learning the 5 steps of the creative process!
  • Conclusion
  • I just finished my art exploration. It looks nothing like I first imagined but it is better than I ever thought it could have been.
  • I am creative! Culture decides what things are cool or not, and those ideas change with time.
  • My next step I didn't do before this class. Usually I stick to what was in my head and not open up to new attempts or ideas. While evaluating I experiment and try new angles, or even new subjects. Sometimes I totally scrap what I was working on and start new. Other times I look at my work and see how I can make it better.
  • You have to have a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset.
  • In a lecture video and Carol Dweck's video discusses mindset and that it is important to have a growth mindset so you are open to learn and try new things. After having a growth mindset and doing last touches, I share my final outcome with friends to get their last thought or approval!
  • Having a growth mindset is when you challenge yourself and are okay with failing because you learn from it. While a fixed mindset doesn't let you leave your comfort zone and learn new things.
  • At the beginning of this class I thought the art process was that you just had to think of something you wanted to create and execute it. That is far from the truth. Being able to have a week shows how much an idea can change and how much goes into the process about thinking of an art assignment and creating it. The steps are preparation, incubation, illumination, evaluation, and verification. We learned this through going through the process every week but also in the Participatory Process.
  • I learned this through videos, like TED Talks, lecture videos and art explorations, in my IAH class and through the book The Runaway Species
