Fort Sumter was the first battle of the civil war. The confederate army bombarded fort Sumter and itended in a confederate victory after Union general Anderson surrendered. Many southern states seceded from the union after this battle.
Battle of Chancellorsville~ April 30-May 6, 1863
Battle of Bull Run was the first major battle of the war. Union general McDowell led 30,000 troops to invade Mananas, Virginia. Jackson and Beauregard resisted the advance and johnston brought in a brigade of 6000 soldiers which overwhelmed the union. And the union took a demoralizing defeat.
Battle of Gettysburg~ July 1-3, 1863
Battle of Antietam was the bloodiest single day battle in american history with over 23,000 casualties. This battle ended in a union victory and caused president Lincoln to issue the emancipation proclamation.
Battle of Bentonville~ March 19, 1865
The battle of Chancellorsville took place in Spotsylvania county, Virginia. This battle had a total of 24,000 casualties one of those included Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson who was mortally wounded by his own men. This was a confederate victory and one of General Lee's greatest victories during the war.
In battle of Gettysburg General Lee began a second invasion of the North. The north had some heavy losses but were still able to defeat Lee in his attempt of invasion. Gettysburg was a turning point and redefined the war also it caused the Gettysburg address.
Battle of Bentonville was in Johnson County, North Carolina and it was the last chance for a Confederate to mount a serious attack on the advancing Union. The union ended up winning and there was a total of 4,127 casualties. Bentonville was the last major battle of the civil war.
