  • Physically speaking, we can not separate. We can not remove our respective sections from each other nor build an impassable wall between them.
  • Mrs. Mallard dies because she had believed that her husband has been dead and now she is finally free. When she sees him walk through the front door, she has a heart attack because she was upset that her husband was not really dead and in reality she was not free.

  • In Lincoln's Inaugural Address he calls for unity among the north and the south. If the states separated, then a war would eventually break out.
  • In this scene, Jim tells Huck about his plan to free his family. He tells Huck that he is going to buy his family once they reach the free states.
  • The song talks about freedom and the freedom of runaway slaves. It is a reference to the Bible.
