Devastated by the realization of Oedipus’ identity, Jacosta hangs herself in the palace and oedipus blinds himself with her golden brooches. And soon Creon, Polyneces, and Eteocles turn on Oedipus.
Polynices and Eteocles fight over the throne. Oedipus disowns them for their disloyalty and predicts their bloody fate if they continue as they are. Polynices, however, is determined and begs his sister to honor his grave.
Sensing his impending death, Oedipus decides his time has come and his daughters and son as well as Theseus accompany him to his grave. Theseus vows to keep the grave protected and he is the only one to witness Oedipus’ last moments.
