  •   Bruno is amazed at how dazzling Fathers office is. Father begins to smile and shake Bruno's hand because he isn't generally the type of person to show too much affection. Father asks Bruno what he thinks of his new home. Bruno reveals that he does not like his new home at 'Out-with'. Bruno is eager to know when they will return to Berlin. But Father dismisses this and tells bruno that home is where ones family is and is not a place.
  • Bruno begins to complain and criticise how far away their new home 'Out-with' is away from Berlin as well as Grandma, Grandpa and his three best friends Karl, Daniel and Martin. Father simply dismisses this again tell Bruno that sometime people have to do things in life they disagree with. Bruno feels tears in his eyes, Father tells him that he just needs to except out-with as his new home as that they will most likely be in 'Out-with' for the foreseeable future.
  • Bruno asks father whether he did something to make the Fury angry, due to the fact he assigned father to a job at Out-With, which is much less desirable than Berlin. Father laughs and before Bruno can think this through, He tells Father that he must not have been very good at his previous job if the Fury made his move away from all his family and friends to  this "horrible place". Father returns to his desk and tells Bruno that he "Just has to accept Out-With as his new home."
  • Bruno shouts that he simply "Does not want to accept it." Instead of showing any sort of reaction Father just shakes his head and tells Bruno "To go to his room."  Before Bruno leaves he asks Father "Who are the people in the striped pyjamas."  "Oh, those people, they aren't people at all." Father replies "You have nothing to do with those people." Bruno raises one broad arm and shouts the words "Heil Hitler" which he presumes is another way of saying "Well goodbye for now have a pleasant afternoon".
