  • In 1784 Edmund Cartwright went to go see a factory owned by Richmond Arkwright.  
  • In 1785 Cartwright made a weaving system called a power loom.
  • In 1787 Cartwright opened a weaving mill in Doncaster in two years he started to use steam engines.
  • In 1802 William Horrocks,a stock port cotton manufacture panted an improved power loom.    
  • In 1823 Richard Guest was able to claim that a boy or girl could handle two power-looms only if their fourteen or fifteen and could make three and a half times as much as the  best hand-loom weaver.
  • By 1850 there were 250,000 cotton power-looms in Britain, Of which nearly 177,000 were in Lancashire.
