  • The First Punic War
  • The First Punic war ended 20 years later when Carthage FINALLY agreed to turn over Sicily to us Romans.
  • The Second Punic War
  • By that fall Hannibal's army had reached the Alps. Hannibal had reached Italy with only a few elephants and half of his army.
  • This wasn't a big problem because, people who hated Roman rule had joined him along the way. Hannibal's army marched south through Italy winning battle after battle.  In 202 B.C Hannibal's forces suffered a disastrous defeat at Zama. A year later, the Carthage asked for peace and the Rome agreed
  • The Third Punic War
  • Roman troops burned the city to the ground and sold its people into slavery.
  • Legends say Romans even plowed salt into the ground where the Carthage had stood so nothing would ever grow there again.
  • The First Punic War began in 264 B.C. The cause of this war was the Rome sent troops to Sicily. Sicily is an island claimed by Carthage. 
  • A brilliant general from Carthage named Hannibal launched the second Punic war. In 218 B.C, in spring,  Hannibal led an army of 40,000 soldiers and 40 war elephants from Spain. 
  • The Third Punic War erupted in 149 B.C when Roman troops vowed to end the power of Carthage forever.
