  • The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street Theme: Assuming Makes Everything Worse
  • When I had read and watched The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street, I had come to the conclusion that the theme of this story is that assuming makes everything worse. My three reasons are that, one, When the people of Maple Street assumed Les Goodman was the monster, everyone got more cautious and scared, two, When they assumed Charlie was the monster he started to get scared and assumed it was Tommy and three, When Tommy assumed that there was monsters in the neighborhood, everyone, in due time, believed him and they destroyed each other. First I'll talk about how the first reason fits into the theme. When the citizens of maple street ASSUMED that Les Goodman was the monster, people got more scared about, if there really was a monster in their neighborhood. Which led them to later on accuse more and more people of being the monster, making the situation worse. The second reason is that when they assumed Charlie was the monster, he had gotten so scared at that point that he shifted the blame on Tommy. Then the aliens made the people of Maple Street assume more and more about who was the real monster and because of everyones fears, they destroyed each other. Finally, the third reason is that when Tommy first assumed that their was a monster in the first place, it created the entire problem of who was and wasn't the monster. It was all thanks to Tommy's childish mind that put fear into the people of Maple Streets minds. These three reasons is what led me to believe that the theme The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street, is that assuming makes everything worse. Just remember that when you are in a situation, don't be rash, and just try to find a reasonable solution, without pointing a finger.
