  • A wave is a disturbance that transfers energy.
  • The highest point of a wave is called a crest. The lowest point is a trough. This is a transverse wave, which means it moves perpendicular to the direction it travels.
  • Longitudinal waves, however vibrate parallel to their motion. Water waves are longitudinal and transverse waves.

  • Mechanical waves, such as sound, require a medium, whereas electromagnetic waves, like light, does not.
