Setting: Mrs. Stevenson's bedroom Character: Mrs. Stevenson, 1st operator, 1st man, 2nd man, Chief operator, 2nd,3rd, 4th, and 5th operator, information, hospital receptionist, western union, sergeant Duffy, a lunchroom-counter attendent.
Mrs. Stevenson is trying to call her husband but the line is busy. As she is trying to contact him, the operator connects her to the wrong number. The call she heard said that two men were going to murder a woman. She tries to trace the number but can't.
Mrs. Stevenson gets connected to the wrong number and overhears two men planning to murder a woman.
While talking to the operator, she hears a click of the receiver. At that moment she knew there was someone listening from down stairs. Then as she was still on the call, she heard the click of the receiver being put down.
After that last click, she knew he was coming up the stairs and burst out wildly screaming. The man is coming closer and reaches her bed.
As the operator is ringing the police department, the sound of her voice is chocked out as the train went by. Now Mrs. Stevenson is lifeless and George, the murderer, picks up the phone and says "Sorry wrong number."
