Characters: Mrs. Stevenson, Sergeant Duffy, George, and the Operators. Setting: Mrs. Stevenson's Bedroom by 2nd Avenue and by Queenboro Bridge,
Mrs. Stevenson tries to call her husband, and accidentally over hears about a murder plan. Worried, she calls the operator hoping to trace the call back. The Operator cant trace calls so he/she results in calling, Miss Curtis (Chief Operator). With no help, Mrs. Stevenson hangs up and calls The Police Department. Sergeant Duffy answers but like the rest, he doesn't seem to help. After a while of trying to call her husband, she receives a telegram that says that he is leaving for Boston at 11 pm. Anxiously she calls Henchley Hospital hoping to get a trained nurse to stay with her for the night.
Mrs. Stevenson is alone in her house while her husband is at work and she over hears a conversation about a plan to murder an innocent woman.

As she is talking to the woman from Henchley Hospital she hears a click sound from the phone. She told the woman that it was like someone had lifted the receiver off the hook of the extension phone that was located downstairs. Right then, she realized that some one was in her house, and they were listening to her conversation.
While she is still on the phone she hears the man coming upstairs, helplessly she yells,"call the police!". Moments later, hanging down is her "lifeless hand".
Sergeant Duffy has picked up. George, the man in her house picks up the phone and says, "Sorry, wrong number".
