  • Setting is the place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place. The stories is, at night in the old man's room, 1800's. To explain, " and every night, about midnight, I turned the latch of his door and opened it". Pg. 626

  • The point of view is what level the narrator is speaking in, first, second, or third. The point of view in this story is first person. To explain, " Presently, I heard a slight groan, and I knew it was the sound of mortal terror." Pg 627

  • Conflicts definition is, a serious disagreement or argument, typically a protracted one. The stories is, to get away with killing the old man whose vulture-like blue eye seems to him an evil eye. To explain, "I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever." Pg. 626

  • The definition is, the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. One example in the story is the heart. To explain, " I can't rest, i shall kill that man".
  • The definition is, a state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may happen. One example is, when the narrator goes into the old man's room each night to see if his eye is open.  To explain, "I turned the latch of his door and opened it---oh, so  gently"!
