  • There is no way S.M.M comes today, the road is horrible and the weather couldn't be worse.
  • Foreshadowing
  • Well, don't break into the money before I come back.

  • MY SON! MY SON!
  • On page 682 narrator says "the night was cold and wet" and Mr.White said "I suppose because only two houses in the road are let, they think it doesn't matter."
  • Theme
  • On page 685 Herbert makes fun of the magic by saying "Well, don't break into the money before I come back" which suggests that something will happen to him... something bad.
  • Simile
  • As I wished, it twisted my hands like a snake.
  • The mood is spooky and sad when Mr.White wished his son to be gone. Spooky on page 690 "The streetlamp flickering opposite shone on a quiet and deserted road."
  • Allusion
  • Sounds like the ‘Arabian Nights'
  • Theme is be careful what you wish for. They didn't need anything but they were greedy so they died.
  • Mrs.White 
  • When Mr. White wished for 200 pounds monkey's paw twisted his hand as he says on page 685 "As I wished, it twisted my hands like a snake."
  • Mrs. White compares the three wishes of the monkeys paw with the genie in 'Arabian Nights' on page 684 “Sounds like the ‘Arabian Nights'"
