The Hobbit - Thorin's Story
Thorin’s family was driven South to the Lonely Mountain. They made it into a huge community with workshops and halls, and gained gold and jewels to use for the items they made. They gained wealth by trading with the men who settled nearby in places like Dale. Their wealth tempted Smaug to come and steal their jewels and gold, which he did. He first went to the city of Dale and destroyed it, and moved on towards the Lonely Mountain. He killed all the dwarves in the mountain except for Thorin, Thrain (Thorin’s father), and Thror (Thorin’s grandfather). Thror was later killed by Azog the Goblin and Thrain went missing. Thorin wants to gain back the dwarves’ wealth from Smaug and bring justice to the dragon.
