They are all talking until the monkeys paw was brought up. You can tell that the monkeys paw brought the soldier great sorrow. Then Mr.Walker takes it a makes a wish for 200 pounds, and the paw moves. Afterwards Herbert heads to the place he works.

After a bit, they get a knock at the door. It was a man telling them that his son got into a accident at work and died. They gave them a consolation of 200 pounds, which is what they wished for. They accept there sorrows and has a funeral and goes to bed.
Ms.White has the 'bright' idea of wishing for the son back. She seemed crazy, and unstable. Mr.Walker was against it, but did it anyways and regretted it. Ms.Walker raced down the stares and tried to unlock the door.

While Ms.Walker was struggling to open the door, Mr.Walker realized what he had to do, and wished for his son to be gone again.
