  • I want to be a politician when I grow up!
  • How to be a politician
  • Neville Bonner grew up by Richmond River, and worked as a ringbarker, stockman and canecutter. 
  • ‘You've got to get into the system, work through the system and make changes.’
  • He thought that  he couldn't change the life of Indigenous Australians unless he was a member of Parliament. 
  • COOL!!!
  • Interesting...
  • He then learnt the necessary skills which would help him as a politician. 
  • He joined the Liberal party, and in 1971, and once was offered to fill in a spot in the Senate. 
  • After his first parliamentary speech, he did a boomerang throwing display on the Parliament House lawns to celebrate
  • He married Heather Bonner in 1972. Their work in the One People of Australia League brought them together.
