  • Of course I can help!
  • Ok kids, class dismissed.
  • Teacher, I have a test about the brain tomorrow and i don't understand anything! Can you help me?
  • As we grow and develop our brain changes. When we are embryos, our brain is very simple and composed of 4 parts which are: the forebrain, midbrain, hindbrain and the spinal cord. The adult brain is much more complex and can be divided into the brainstem, the cerebrum, the thalamus and the cerebrum. The all can be subdivided into many more specific parts.
  • In the adult brain, the brainstem is divided into 3 parts: The midbrains, he pons and the medulla oblongata. It has two main functions which are: 1) dealing with things like breathing, circulation and digestion ; and 2) the transportation and filtration of information
  • The next part is the cerebellum. It deals with body control and motion memory. This is the part of the brain that gives balance when we play sports. It also is used when we do things like learn and remember how to ride our bikes! 🚲
  • The next part is the thalamus which is like a router. It sorts data and tells it where it needs to go. Inside of it are the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland. The hypothalamus helps maintain homeostasis while the pituitary controls hormone production.
  • The cerebrum is the part of the brain that deals with integration. It has billions of neurons and synapses. It makes sense of all the information that comes in. Do you understand?
  • Yes! Now I understand the parts of the brain and their functions. I'm going to ace that test tomorrow.
