The people of Haiti never got along. They were separated into five different classes according to how wealthy you were and that brought disharmony among them.
Firstly, there was the Upper Class. AKA, the whites. They were the highest and the richest among the other classes and they were European. They constituted as little as 2 percent of the population.
Secondly, there were the Petite Blancs. They had less power than the Upper Class, Grand Blancs, but other than that, they were very much almost the same exact thing.
Thirdly, there were the mulattoes. These people were mixed with African and European Ancestry. Usually, the light skinned ones were treated slightly better than the darker ones.
In Fourth we have the 'Free Blacks.' They were among the lowest of the lowest because of their skin color and could not have the same rights as someone who is apart of the Grand/Petite Blanc.
In last place we have the Enslaved. They were treated the most unfairly among the five classes and they were born Africans. They worked on the plantatations in Haiti.
