- Commutative : A+B = B+A or AB = BAAssociative: (A+B)+C = A+(B+C) or (AB)C = A(BC)
- Algebra IIToday:Real Number and Operations
- Commutative : A+B = B+A or AB = BAAssociative: (A+B)+C = A+(B+C) or (AB)C = A(BC)Identity: A+0 = A or A*1 = AInverse: A+(-A) = 0 or A*1/A = 1Distributive: A(B+C) = AB+AC
- Distributive: A(B+C) = AB+AC
- Identity: A+0 = A or A*1 = A Inverse: A+(-A) = 0 or A*1/A = 1
- Okay class, we are going to learning about properties today. John, read the first two, then Mary read the next two and finally, Ron read the last one.
- Yeah, Commutative is saying even if you switch the number around, they still get the same answer. Same with associative, but with parentheses.
- Yeah, and distributive is saying that you have to distribute that number on the out to both of the inside numbers.
- Algebra IIToday:Real Number and Operations
- Commutative : 3+5 = 5+3 or 3*5 = 5*3Associative: (6+7)+3 = 6+(7+3) or (3*4)*5 = 3*(4*5)Identity: 5+0 = 5 or 5*1 = 5Inverse: 5+(-5) = 0 or 5*1/5 = 1Distributive: 3(4+6) =12+18
- Yeah, and Identity is saying that add 0 or times by 1 you will get the number itself. Inverse is saying that any number added to its's opposite will equal zero and that any number multiplied by its reciprocal is equal to one.
- Does everyone understand what that mean after I turned the letters into numbers?
- The answers are A, D, and B.
- Algebra IIToday:Real Number and Operations
- I agree with both of you.
- 1. 6+9 = 9+6 2. 1*1 =1 3. 8+(-8) =0A. CommutativeB. InverseC. AssociativeD. Identity
- Yeah, that right John.
- Okay class, do you know the answers to the question on the board?......Great job class, now you know what different kind of properties there are.
