Storyboard Text

  • My friend needs help simplyfying (A2 ) 4
  • Its called power of a power! when you have an exponent being risen to another exponent, you can mulltiply the exponents
  • So  (A2 ) 4    Could be simplified to A2x4, and if the base is negative, the same rule applies
  • Thank you! Now can you explain the zero law!
  • The  zero exponent rule basically says that any base with an exponent of zero is equal to one.
  • But when its negative it can get a bit confusing...
  • When the base is negative (-a)0   It is positive 1 because the negative sign is inside the bracket
  • If the negative symbol is not in the bracket -a0 It is negative 1 because the negative sign is part of the base
  • Yay! the last one is power of a product
  • When the exponent applies to multiple bases in a bracket, you can add the exponent to each base
  • It sounds confusing, but heres an example (ab)3 can be simplified too a3x b3
  • If the bases are negative, you can still simplify it the same way!
  • an example is (-a x -b)3  is (-a3   )  (-b)3
  • WERE DONE! LETS GO CELEBRATE
  • LETS GO CELEBRATE LEARNING EXPONENT LAWS!
