  • The REAL Reason For Shays Rebellion
  • Some of you might be confused about Shays Rebellion, so here is what it was all about!
  • After the Revolutionary War, the government became very weak and couldn't pay soldiers that fought in the war. They had put taxes on almost everything you could buy. Since not a lot of people has lots and lots of money, government made them pay their taxes with land. This sparked a outburst among farmers.
  • Daniel Shay, a farmer, led an uprising with Massachusetts farm owners. They set houses on fire and attacked tax collectors. Eventually the state militia broke them up and gave them some of their demands.
  • We need a new constitution!
  • After Shays rebellion, they realized that the constitution wasn't working out. This caused more rebellion, since some people didn't like it.
  • When more fights broke out, the president sent militia to come stop the rebellion. Before the militia got there the farmers heard about it and broke apart. Then the national government didn't have to struggle for authority,
  • And that is the story of Shays Rebellion!
