At the age of 12, he was forced to become a child soldier. Ishmael fought for almost three years before being rescued by UNICEF. He fought for the government army against the rebels. And now tells his story about his old life, and his now lives his new one with his uncle.
In this scene Ishmael is in New York for the first time he is with Bah and Dr. Tamba.
I selected this scene because i think its important to know how he starts his knew life after all the war and how he tells his story.
"Every morning we would quickly walk through the snow to a conference room down the street. There we would cast our sufferings aside and intelligently discuss solutions to the
problems facing children in our various countries. At the end of these long discussions, our faces and eyes glittered with hope and the promise of happiness. It seemed we were
transforming our sufferings as we talked about ways to solve their causes and let them be known to the world."
Because its winter and its snowing.
why is it cold, and dark?
“Is this your first time in the city, and are you guys enjoying the beautiful snowfall?” the taxi driver asked.
“Yes, it is their first time in the city,” Dr. Tamba replied
Because it was Ishmael's first time in New York he didn't know why it was cold and why it was getting dark so fast.
Ishmael and Dr. Tamba go into a taxi to go to the Vanderbilt YMCA hotel on Forty-seventh Street were he would stay and speak to the UN about the effect of war on children.
“I am Ishmael from Sierra Leone.”
“My name is Kristen. I am from Norway.”
When they arrived Ishmael was amazed of all the tall buildings he had seen.
When Ishmael got there he was surprised to see so many people from all over the world.
While Ishmael was waiting a woman came up to him and introduced her self and invited him to eat breakfast with her and the other children.
For the next days Ishmael and other children would tell their story's and tell them their opinions on how they can resolve problems with war and children .
