  • Civil Rights Act of 1866
  • They say we have free citizenship but it all seems the same.
  • 14th Amendment
  • My child was born in the U.S. which makes him a full citizen!!!!!!
  • The Freedmen's Bureau distributed clothing, food, and land. They set up hospitals and schools for the African Americans.
  • Reconstruction Act of 1867
  • The Civil Rights Act gave African Americans full citizenship, greatly restricted African Americans lives. They could not carry weapons, couldn't serve on juries, couldn't testify against whites, could not marry whites, and could not travel without permits.
  • 15th Amendment
  • The 14th amendment made all persons born in the U.S. citizens. All citizens were entitled to equal protection of the law, and no state could deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of the law. If a state denied the right to vote, they would lose seats in Congress.
  • Enforcement Act of 1870
  • They did not recognize state governments formed under Lincoln and Johnson's plan. Divided Southern states into 5 districts, each controlled by the Union general. For a state reenter the Union, it must be approve black suffrage AND it must approve the 14th Amendment.
  • The 15th Amendment is the right of citizens of the United States to vote. Should not be denied by race or color or pevious slavery.
