  • Gregory VII's Election
  • I, King Henry IV name you, Gregory VII, Pope.
  • Gregory VII's Decrees
  • I will be establishing some new laws. 
  • For one, priests can not marry. Also Kings can 't appoint any officials.
  • The Argument
  • Your decrees are unacceptable!
  • King Henry IV names Gregory VII the pope, the highest rank of the Roman catholic church.
  • Henry's exocommunication
  • Gregory VII decides to make a lot of new laws which took away a lot of the kings power.
  • Begging for forgiveness
  • Okay, you are re-permitted into the church!
  • The King is mad at Gregory's new decrees because he took away a lot of his power. He felt that it was his right to wield that power. He decides to take away Gregory's power by saying that he was no longer Pope.
  •

  • The Pope responded to this by excommunicating Henry. This meant that he was  band from the church, and more importantly, his soul would never reach heaven after he died. He also said that all Henry's subjects did not need to be loyal to him anymore.
  • You are exocommunicated. You are banned from the church!
  • The King gets scared, and begs the Pope to let him back to the church, accepting his new laws. The Pope knew that he had won and so, he agrees.
  • I beg for forgiveness. Please allow me back into the church!
