  • The lottery is getting set up and Mr. Summers is getting everything ready to go. The black box is on the table and Mr. Summers has a white t shirt and jeans on. 
  • Bill Hutchinson c
  • The mood is low and kind of boring until Tessie Hutchinson barges in yelling that she forgot to come and made sure they didn't start without her. Introducing her character kind of foreshadows something happening involving her later. 
  • Tessie Hutchinson
  • In the lottery, during attendance Mr. Summers checks the list to makes sure everyone who is supposed to draw is there. It is  important that each family has a representative and it hasn't to be the father or oldest male in the family. 
  • Stoned r
  • In the lottery every family representative draws a wood chip or piece of paper. Everyone hopes to get a blank piece but if you end up with the black dot something very bad is going to happen to you or someone in your family. In this scene Bill Hutchinson draws the dotted card. he just stares down at the paper in his hand in disappointment.  
  • After everyone in the Hutchinson family has drawn they all look down at the paper in their hand. Tessie's face immediately changes color and she gets very upset. Tessie is the one that will be killed. She yells that it isn't fair and demands a redo. Tessie is taken to a new area to be stoned. 
  • Tessie was standing in the middle of all of her friends, family, and neighbors. The stones began to be thrown. Someone threw a stone right at Tessie's head and she yelled.
