Storyboard Text

  • "The goal of society should be the greatest happiness for the greatest number of it's citizens."
  • TOGETHER we will all operate everything that produces and distributes the goods we work with.
  • "Working men of all countries, unite!"
  • Jeremy Bentham is the man who stated the quote above. He preached utilitarianism. This is saying that the government should produce ways of getting things done well but should keep the well being of society in check. Everyone should enjoy their freedom without having to suffer any pain. This is how inequity was on it's way to being eliminated.
  • Another way of eliminating inequity as well as poverty was socialism. Socialism is where no individual will operate the means of production but the society as a whole will work together and do it. This way there is a change in the income difference between the middle and working class.
  • On the downside however, there were people who saw inequity between the two classes as unavoidable. Communism is the form that sees this class struggle that way. Karl Marx however came along and mentioned how he despised it and what he believed. He began to gain popularity saying that power should be held by employees rather than the business owners.
