Arrival at Roanoke
Colony from August to October
After John White Leaves...
John White left 117 British men and women on the Island of Roanoke to claim the island as a colony of Britain. One of the colonists was White's daughter who was married to a man named Ananias Dare and was expecting a baby very soon. They were not the first to try and settle on this island, there was a failed attempt two years prior by another English explorer named Sir Richard Greenville.
The Colony became very harsh to live in. John and the colonists started to run out of food and medical supplies and the some of the colonists died due to starvation and injuries. John had no choice, but to leave the colony and get more supplies, so the colonists would live. in the long run it was a terrible choice.
After John left for the supplies, the native Americans saw the colony of the British and were not happy. The Native Americans decided to destroyed the shelters and killed everyone, but left a dead body as a warning. Just in case the plan did not work the left a message saying Croatian where they would be waiting to strike the rest of them dead.
