  • If a single kid is doing something else during the class, we can just gently tap the desk or his/her shoulder to redirect him/her. Sometimes, verbal reactions can escalate the situation.
  • Non-verbal Reactions
  • Gentle Whisper
  • If non-verbal reminder didn't work, then we can try whisper reminder. Public criticism may also make the situation worse.
  • Whisper: I really need you to be quiet and go back to your seat, please.
  • Praise
  • If the strategy works, don't forget to praise the behavior to reinforce it positively. And talk with the student at recess to figure the reason why he/she didn't behave well.
  • I appreciate that you sat down and we'll talk at recess.
