  • In 1845 the U.S attempted to buy Cuba from Spain. Spain stated that they would rather see Cuba sink in the ocean.
  • Jose Marti dedicated his life to achieving independence for Cuba.
  • USS Maine was used to go to Cuba to bring home citizens and when the ship was shot in half more than 260 men were killed over the ship. Although the explosion was an accident, U.S newspapers blamed the incident on Spain.
  • False!
  • Spanish American war The Spanish government agreed to most of what the U.S demanded. McKinely asked congress for authority to use a force against Spain. Eventually when the debate was over congress agreed which caused war to start.
  • Rough Rider A volunteer country under the commend of Leonard Wood and Theodore Roosevelt a New Yorker, had given up his job as an assistant sector.
  • The treaty of Paris is a treaty to Spanish Americans which they need Paris to agree on it. Spain then sold the Philippines to the U.S for 20 million dollars.
  • The debate on Paris was am argument centered on whether or not the United States had the right to Annex the Philippines but, imperialism was the real issue.
