Storyboard Text

  • the White men are making are reservations smaller so they can have more land
  • reservations are the land that the americans made the natives live in. There tribes were forced to live there and the land was not good for hunting and planting.
  • I don't like reservations and land claims because it means less land for us so I want to send the natives away to school
  • I think the natives are equal to us and they should go to school and be americans like us.
  • Assimilation was when white men wanted natives to be more like them. they forced natives to give up there religion and culture and they had to go to boarding schools. If they did not obey they would be punished.
  • Now I am stuck in this school where I never get to see my parents or family.
  • I now I am forced to learn how to be a blacksmith or carpenter.
  • When the native children went boarder schools they were forced to forget their culture. Also they were split up from their parents and family. The teachers made the native kids look like euro american kids. Girls learned to clean and cook while boys learned to blacksmith and be a carpenter. The schools were dirty and many kids got sick and got disease there.
