Storyboard Text

  • Look at this huge volcano!
  • A very long time ago... (Active Volcano)
  • I think it's erupting, we have got to get out of here!
  • From that volcano, there is now a ton of bare rock.
  • 500 years later (Bare Rock)
  • Yeah, I wonder how long the volcano erupt was.
  • 500 years later (Soil and Pioneer Species)
  • Yeah, I think I see lichens and mosses, they must have broken down all of this bare rock. That must be how the soil was formed!
  • Look it has now evolved to Thin soil. Soil is now able to form here, I wonder why?
  • This land has changed so much, 1,000 years ago, there was only bare rock.
  • It looks like the soil has gotten thicker. The weeds and grass must have been able to grow, then when they died, added nutrients to the soil. This place is now able to support grass.
  • 500 years later (Grass)
  • There are now shrubs everywhere, the soil is very thick now.
  • 500 years later (Shrubs)
  • The shrubs probably found a way to live, then, when they died, they added much nutrients to the soil. I bet in a couple hundred years, we will see trees growing.
  • Finally, after thousands of years, trees have grown. It's crazy how bare rock can turn into this beautiful forest.
  • You predicted it, when the shrubs died, they left nutrients and eventually let this soil support trees!
  • 500 years later (Trees)
