  • Man vs. Society
  • Man vs. Man
  • Man vs. Nature
  • Lyddie shows up to the Tavern and is waiting outside while Mistress Cutler judges Lyddie based on her clothes. This is man vs. society because Lyddie is being judged by the stereotypical society based on her clothes" Self-consiciously, she raised her sleeve and wiped her nose and mouth under the woman's unforgiving stare. 'Go along,' the woman was saying. 'This is a respectable tavern, not the township poor farm."  (pg. 20)
  • Betsy and Amelia were fighting about signing the petition. It is man vs. man because the Betsy is in conflict with Amelia. "Amelia began to cry. Her chiseled marble features crumbled into the angry, helpless rage of a child. As Lyddie watched, she could feel the hardness inside herself breaking, like jagged cracks across granite.---'Oh Betsy, you wouldn't!'(pg. 91)
  •  Lyddie's family was in conflict with illness. Agnes died and Rachel has poor health. This is man vs. nature because Agnes was in conflict with illness and didn't make it through. "Baby Agnes is gone to God. Rachel is porely miny hav died, but Gods will be dun."(pg. 88)
