Act 4 Scene 2
(in his own voice)
Maria, Sir Toby, and the other servants have locked Malvolio into a small, dark chamber in Olivia’s house. Maria asks Feste to put on a disguise that will make him look like Sir Topas, a fictional priest. They tell Feste to talk to Malvolio as Sir Topas, while they listen in.
Feste approaches the room Malvolio is locked in. Malvolio insists that he is not insane, and begs Feste to somehow let him out. He tells Feste to ask him some questions, trying to prove his sanity, but Feste uses unreasonable questions and denies Malvalio’s answers.
Sir Topas the curate, who comes to visit Malvolio the lunatic.
Feste uses his own voice, as well as the voice of Sir Topas, to make it sound as if they both are having a conversation about Malvolio.
Marry, amen.
(as Sir Topas)
Malvolio, Malvolio, thy wits the heavens restore! Maintain no words with him, good fellow.
I will, sir, I will.
Who, I, sir? Not I, sir. God b' wi' you, good Sir Topas.
Advise you what you say. The minister is here.
