In the Kakadu's National Park in the paperback wetlands Plumwood is going on her adventure to get a to the rock art site. Plumwood was given a canoe for her adventure and was admonished to not go past the backwaters and onto the main river canal.
Plumwood set off on her journey to see the rock figures. Trying to get along side the main canal that she had gone the day before the rain and wind picked up.
Needing to dump out some of the water in her canoe she finds a large sand bar to dump out some of the water into. She looks for crocodiles in the water and gets out to push. Not to far away a crocodile menacing and on the way.
The crocodile caught up and grabbed on to Plumwood. Fighting for her life Plumwood got free and soon after was grabbed onto again continuing the death roll. Again and again the attack occurred while Plumwood had deep remorse of the situation.
Trying to get to land and becoming free from the crocodile while it is coming back fast to bring her back into the water. She reached land after fighting with the crocodile the third time and was now safer on land.
After getting away from the crocodile and the water she finds a rock to sit on and regather. On the rock she used some of her ripped cloths to stop some bleeding. Once when was ready she had to find a way to get back and luckily there was a ranger on the way to save her. Some people wanted to kill the crocodile but Plumwood said that it was her fault for the attack.
