George Washington was an explorer for Portugal and sailed as far as Africa's Gold Coast. He explored the Caribbean islands, Cuba, and Jamaica. He also went out exploring then found what he thought he reached the East Indies, but instead found North America.
Amerigo Vespucci was an Italian explorer who went on a journey for Portugal, explored the coast of South America. Vespucci realized South America was a separate continent, named it America in his honor.

Bartolomeu Dias set out from Lisbon with two small caravels and a supply ship. He was sent by King John to the Indian Ocean. He realized that he had passed africa after going through the Orange River and passed a cape. He set back for South Africa and then realized he passed it again. He named it the Cape Of Good Hope hoping it would bring new trade routes for India.
Pedro Álvares Cabral
Ferdinand Magellan was also a Portuguese explorer who was sailing for Spain reached Southernmost tip of Africa. While sailing through stormy weathers he went through a straight and got lead into a very calm ocean then named it The pacific ocean.
Vasco De Gama was a sailor who sailed from Portugal who was sailing for Africa with four ships.
Pedro Álvares Cabral was a nobleman who led commanded ships. He planned to follow de gamas western then southward course.
