The theme of Old Man and the Sea is never give up what your fighting for.
“But remember how you went eighty-seven days without fish and then we caught big ones every day for three weeks.” It means no matter how hard things look right now it will always pay off in the end
The purpose of Old Man and the Sea is to inform those who have a hard time inlife that no matter how much opposition is faced it can always be overcome by hard work and determination.
The Marlin represents hard work and determination and that in the end what is trying to be achieved it is possible no matter what.
Santiago is a symbol of the audience as he never gave up no matter the opposition he faced he never gave up no matter how hard the fish fought.
